Normal Subgroups and Quotient Groups
Quotient groups treat each coset as a single element, building simpler groups from complicated ones. The kernel of a homomorphism is always a normal subgroup.
WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
✓Define normal subgroups: gHg⁻¹ = H
✓Construct the quotient group G/N
✓Recognize kernels as normal subgroups
✓Apply the correspondence theorem
