Logarithmic Functions

If 2^x = 8, then x = 3 — that reasoning defines the logarithm: log₂(8) = 3. Logarithms are the inverse of exponentials, just as subtraction undoes addition. Their graphs are reflections of exponential graphs across y = x. Students develop fluency moving between the two forms and evaluating expressions like log₅(125) by thinking exponentially.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
Define the logarithm as the inverse of an exponential: log_b(x) = y ⇔ b^y = x
Graph logarithmic functions and identify key features
Convert between logarithmic and exponential form
Evaluate and simplify logarithmic expressions
