Linear Relations

The equation y = mx + b is one of the most important in all of secondary mathematics. Students learn to read slope as a rate of change and the y-intercept as a starting value. Moving fluidly between table, graph, and equation — and describing what each reveals — is the central skill of this unit.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
Create and interpret tables of values for linear relations
Graph a linear relation and identify its slope and y-intercept
Write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form: y = mx + b
Determine whether a point lies on a given line
