Metric and Imperial Measurement

Imperial units persist in everyday Canadian life — feet and inches for height, miles in the United States, pounds at the grocery store. Students develop fluency converting between systems and apply measurement skills to composite 3D shapes where the Pythagorean theorem is often needed to find a missing dimension before computing surface area or volume.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
Convert between metric and imperial units of length, area, and volume
Apply the Pythagorean theorem in 3D measurement contexts
Calculate surface area and volume of composite 3D objects
Solve problems requiring unit conversion within a multi-step calculation
