Systems of Linear Equations

Two equations, two unknowns — a system of linear equations represents two constraints that must be satisfied simultaneously. The solution is the point where the lines intersect. Students master three methods (graphing, substitution, elimination) and learn to choose the most efficient one. Real problems — mixing solutions, comparing phone plans — give systems their motivation.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
Solve a system of two linear equations by graphing
Solve a system by substitution
Solve a system by elimination (linear combination)
Model and solve real-world problems using systems of equations
