Operations with Polynomials

Polynomial operations extend integer arithmetic to algebraic expressions. Multiplying (x + 3)(x − 5) requires distributing every term — the same logic as multiplying multi-digit numbers. Special products like (a + b)(a − b) = a² − b² are patterns worth recognizing immediately, as they appear constantly in factoring and simplification.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
Add, subtract, and multiply polynomials
Apply the distributive property to expand products of binomials
Simplify polynomial expressions
Recognize and expand special products: (a + b)², (a − b)², (a + b)(a − b)
