Quadratic Functions
The parabola is the signature curve of quadratic functions. Vertex form f(x) = a(x − h)² + k reveals everything at a glance: the vertex is (h, k), the axis of symmetry is x = h, and a tells you how wide and which way the parabola opens. Students learn to move fluently between the three forms — each one best suited for different purposes.
WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
✓Graph quadratic functions in vertex form: f(x) = a(x − h)² + k
✓Identify the vertex, axis of symmetry, and direction of opening
✓Convert between vertex form, factored form, and standard form
✓Analyze the effect of a, h, and k on the shape and position of the parabola
